History of the Château

Château St Victor, with its grandeur of a bygone era, its terraces and the gardens that surround it constitute a perfect charming setting.

The current Château is built on the site of an older one, which dates back to the 15th century. It belonged to the same family, the "d'André de Saint Victor", from 1709 to 1875 and was partially destroyed by the revolution and the republicans who did not give gifts to the nobles of the region.

In 1875, the last representative of the family, Egide d'André, sold the Château to Léonce Pascal

The present monument is the work of Léonce Pascal, who restored and enlarged it (notably by adding the part on the right of the main façade) using many elements of the old Château. He also created the park that surrounds the Château and sponsored the creation of the road that goes from Uzès to Saint Victor by accepting that it passes through the park. He also had the Clock Tower built behind the Château, which still rings today.

Léonce Pascal was born in Saint Victor and made his fortune in Paris, working with the Boucicaut brothers, creators of the first department store in Paris, the Bon Marché, which still exists today.

At the death of Léonce Pascal in 1923, the Château passed between several hands, in particular those of the family who created the brand of men's underwear Eminence and whose factory is still in Lunel near Montpellier. In 1993, the Château became a hotel-restaurant and additions included the swimming pool, tennis court and a helicopter landing field.

Since 2014, the 9,000-square-foot house has undergone extensive renovations, including improvements to its slate-tiled towers, which were added in the 19th century, and the lime rendering on the stone facade. It has also been lovingly and sympathetically redecorated with sumptuous finishes.

The current family have owned the Château for nearly a decade and look forward to welcoming you to their private family home in Provence.

The Village of St Victor des Oules

This 17th-century Château is located at the heart of Saint-Victor-des-Oules, a hilltop village in the south of France just outside the historic town of Uzès, under 2 hours north-west of Marseille and the Mediterranean Coast 30 minutes from Nîmes and borders Provence.

The village takes its name from the oules (pots in the Provençal language), when Saint-Victor sold terracotta tableware in Avignon and Nîmes. The last oven died out in 1873. Today, ceramics and quartz quarries have taken over.

St Victor des Oules is 4km from the larger historic and unmissable village of Uzès. Uzès is  amongst only 3 villages in all of France to received the coveted 3stars in the Green Michelin Guide. At its centrepiece is the Duche of Uzès, in which the current Duke and his family still reside.
